What is the Scope of Pharmacist Courses at the Global Level?

Pharmacy is more than just a degree that allows you to run a drugstore. A pharma education is a resource for pursuing a career in medical research and development. A drug/medicine must go through tests and clearances before it can be recommended by a doctor.

Only after it has been tested in a lab and analyzed for dose and side effects, are the prescription guidelines developed. The drugs are then sent to clinical studies, and released into the market once all probable side effects have been studied. Pharmacists are involved in the entire procedure. They are also in charge of introducing new drugs and medicines to different medical practitioners.

Pharmacists' Role in the Healthcare Industry

A pharmacist's role does not end there. They carry out market research and keep track of all drugs and products by interacting with medical professionals and suppliers for any reactions, side effects, and allergies. Although medications are evaluated in labs before being distributed in a market, due to the variability and complexity of human individuals, inconsistent results from the same medicine might occur; consequently, a pharmacy practitioner must study and create medicines and prescriptions at various levels. Pharmacy encompasses everything linked to your well-being, from the food you eat to the lifestyle products cosmetics, health, and chemical accessories you use.

When we talk about the scope of pharmacist courses, according to the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) research report 'Pharmacy at a glance 2015-2017,' the pharmacy community is the largest contributor with 75.1 percent of licensed pharmacists employed, followed by a medical center pharmacist with 13.2 percent. Pharmacy practitioners offer the following services:

Improving medication utilization includes reviewing medications, hypertension medications, directly observed therapies, short-course medications, medication reconciliation, and new drug development.

Product-focused services include combining medicines (based on medical practitioners' prescriptions) and assembling outdated pharmaceuticals from a market.

Public health services include health initiative promotion, health camps, vaccines, and other health-related awareness.

The World Health Organization (WHO) in India aims to develop the pharmaceutical sector, encompassing drug laws, volume, and trade, in order for pharmaceuticals to become more important to India's growth. The WHO, in close collaboration with the Government of India, manages the pharmaceutical sector's strengths and collaborations.

Access to medications is important to the fulfillment of the WHO 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. Thus, WHO India's primary aim is to strengthen the regulatory system, which can aid in equitable access to high-quality, safe, effective, and affordable medical products. Pharmacist courses are available at several levels, and candidates must meet the required eligibility criteria for the specific course in order to be admitted.
